INDOOR SOCCER RULES

All players / coaches / spectators are advised to read the Cage Soccer rules as they may differ from other indoor sports centres.

  • A team consists of 5 players on field (4) midfield & (1) goal keeper. A team can play with a minimum of 4 players for a game to still be valid.

  • All players in a team must have the same colour shirts by rd. 4. Failure to do this will result in a loss of 1 goal per game until teams are in full uniform.

  • Shin guards are recommended but not required. If shin guards are required they are to be provided by the individual, not the stadium.

  • All jewellery must be removed before the game.

  • Players must play * at least 5 games to qualify for finals

* a valid game is classed as your name being marked off on your team check in sheet done prior to match when team payment is due.

  • All game fees must be paid before the start of the game & have marked off your team on the team check in sheet. The clock will start on time regardless if team payment has been received, but the game won’t start.

  • Teams running more than 5 minutes late will be penalised 1 goal for every minute onwards and clock will be started. Teams running over 10 minutes will forfeit the game which results in a 3-0 defeat. And be required to pay full match fee.

  • If a team only has 4 players they have 2 options - 1) play with 4 players ( game fee remains $60) or 2) providing opposition agrees, your team may ask a player from a previous game to fill in. This incurs a 1 goal penalty.

  • If a team only has 3 players the game will go ahead providing 2 - 3 players can be found to fill in, however this will be a forfeit and the opposition wins 3 - nil.

  • If a team cannot compete in their match, 48 hr notice prior to match commencement must be given to avoid a forfeit fine. Forfeit fine = a match fee

As of January 12th 2009 - Return of Fixtured Matches

Season Setup

All junior competitions will no longer include finals for the top four finishing teams.

As per usual all seasons conicide with school terms but where as before if a term had 11 weeks there would be 9 weeks fixtured, 1 week for SF and 1 week for GF; as of 2009 a 11 week term will consist of 11 weeks of match play. Whoever finishes ontop after the regular season are awarded the Premiers.

Sportsmanship

Particulary in Junior competition, all participants involved in a match are to shake hands before and after each game.

Parents / Guardians / Coaches who look after a team are to sign a Cannon Encourages Good Sportsmanship form. This declares that their team, while at Cannon Indoor Sports, will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, encourage good play & wont tolerate abuse, disputing, intimadation & confrontation from those involved with their chosen team.

Handicap

In the event a team is excelling in their specific age group & cannot be moved into a higher grade or next age group, a 3 goal advantage will be awarded to the opposition prior to game starting and will be shown on the score board. This rule is introduced with the intent to make competitions even where deemed neccasary & particulary in juniors, to help keep developing teams motivated & upbeat even if a loss occurs.

MATCH PLAY

  • A game consists of 2 x 18 minute halves. A kick off begins from the centre of the floor on the ref’s whistle. The home team starts the game & the away team kicks off at the start of the 2nd half. A goal cannot be scored from the kick off.

  • If the game is temporarily suspended for any reason, the referee will restart the game by a “drop ball” at the closest point to where play was in.

Penalty area The penalty area is outlined on the court as a semi circle at either end of the field. Any infringement in this area by the defensive side will result in a penalty kick, regardless if the infringement while the offensive side was attempting to score.

  • PLAYERS CANNOT DO THE FOLLOWING

      • Tackle from behind or in a manner considered dangerous.

      • If gone to ground, cannot contest for ball.

    • Slide Tackle - This will result in an immediate yellow card. In the event a umpire genuinely believes the slide tackle was violent and intentional to inflict an injury a red card will be given.

      • Touch the ball with any part of the arm from the elbow down. If a player genuinely attempts to avoid contact & balls hits above elbow and below shoulder, this is deemed play on. A player is within their right to protect their face with their hands if required & not be called " hand ball".

      • Be in possession of the ball for more then 5 seconds. This includes the goal keeper as well. This is classed as “delay of play”.

      • Midfield players cannot enter the goalie area. This results in either a goalie ball (if offense enter) or a penalty (if defense enters).

      • Goalie cannot enter midfield area. This results in a penalty kick.  The goalie may use their hands inside the goalie square & may leave the area to enter the semi circle (penalty area). They cannot use their hands in this area & may not exit the semi circle into the midfield.

    • Swear, confront or become violent in any way. This will result (umpires discretion) in either a yellow & or red card. This also includes disputing & constantly disputing the umpires decision. The umpires decision is final & will not change.

  •  Anti Social Behaviour - This applies to both teams on field and their "bench". While we encourage friends, family etc to spectate & cheer; yelling, disputing, swearing and confrontation is not tolerated. Players cannot incite and or encourage confrontation and must display good sportsmanship while in Cannon Sports.

  •

The above is decided on the umpire's discretion & will result in either the following

1.      FREE KICK – Free kicks are taken closest to where the incident occurred. Goals cannot be scored from free kicks (indirect).

2.      PENALTIES – Penalties are taken from the designated penalty spot. Players can only take one step prior to kicking the ball.

3.      YELLOW / RED CARDS & FOULS

·        YELLOW CARD = MISCONDUCT

·        When a player receives a yellow card this is a warning. If a player receives to yellow cards in the same game, this becomes a red card & will be ejected form the remaining of the game & will serve a one week suspension.

·        RED CARD = EJECTION

·        When a player receives a red card, they must immediately leave the field & no substitution can be made for that player & will serve a two week suspension.

.        FOULS

Like basketball, teams receive fouls for all indescritions. Once a team has five fouls the opposition takes a direct shot at goal from the foul spot ( yellow dot 3 metres behind penalty spot). There is no wall and only the goal keeper can be between the ball & goals.

SUBSTITUTIONS

  • The referee must be notified of all intended substitutions with each side able to have a as many sub's as they see fit until the last minute of each half. The sub’s take place after any goal scored with the ref blowing his whistle & stopping play .

In the event a team is short no more then 2 players, the team may use players from opposing teams in the same competition providing the opposition captain has agreed to this.

NETS

  • Players cannot use the nets during play to aid themselves are restrict others. Unless unintentional, touching the net will result in a free kick to the opposition. This is umpires discretion.

CAPTAINS

  • Each team must have designated captain. Only the captain can approach the referee regarding decisions made or questions about play. Failure to do this can result in either a free kick. Yellow & or red card. This is umpires discretion. Captains are also asked to assist in keeping their team playing in socially acceptable and appropriate sportsmanship behaviour.

SCORING A GOAL & POINT SYSTEM

  • A goal is when the entire ball has passed over the goal line, between the goal posts & under the cross bar providing it has been done so with a legal disposal. In any conflict whether the ball has crossed fully or not, this comes under umpire discretion.

  • The following are the points received for the relevant match result –

      • Win = 4 points

      • Draw = 2 points

      • Loss = 0 points

      • Forfeit = -1 points

FINALS

  • The top 4 finishing teams after rd 12 enter the final series. This is a knock situation where 1 v 4 & 2 v 3 play to determine who wins the right to playoff in the grand final.

In the event the scores are level at the completion of the game, 2 x 2 min halves are played . If no goals score in the 2 x 3 min period a penalty shoot out of 5 shots per team take place to determine the winner.
